How It Works
The process is straightforward, efficient and trusted by producers and certificate buyers worldwide.
Register Assets & Report Generation
Generators register and gain approval. They then report verified clean energy production on an ongoing basis.
Issue & Transfer TIGR Certificates
TIGRs are issued based on renewable production, with each certificate representing 1 MWh of renewable electricity generated. They are managed and transferred through a secure, traceable ledger.
Retire for Claims
Purchasers retire TIGRs to support emissions reduction claims and sustainability reporting.

Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about TIGR
How will buyers know they are purchasing RECs tracked in the TIGR Registry?
Buyers can establish their own accounts on the TIGR Registry and actively manage the transfer and retirement processes. Alternatively, buyers can buy through intermediaries (brokers and retailers) who have accounts on the registry. In both cases, every purchaser will have full transparency through a privately accessed web portal to see RECs retired for their benefit. This is key to ensuring the instruments’ credibility.
Who buys RECs from the TIGR Registry?
We have experienced strong interest from corporate sustainability teams seeking renewable energy as part of their sustainability strategy. The TIGR Registry team also assists retailers who are purchasing and retiring voluntary supply for their clients in a reliable and transparent way. The TIGR Registry is becoming a standard way for project developers to showcase their projects to potential buyers, investors and lenders.
How do I buy RECs from the TIGR Registry?
RECs support the development of renewable energy sources, connecting generators with companies seeking to support green energy. You can buy RECs directly from project developers, as well as from retailers or through brokers. If you are looking for projects in a specific country, review the project list. If you do not see what you are looking for, please reach out as we work with project developers in many countries.
Does Xpansiv provide REC registry services within North America?
Yes. The North American Renewables Registry (NAR™) spans 29 states and provinces, as well as Puerto Rico and Guam, serving as a system of record for state compliance programs and major voluntary standards, including the Green-e® Energy program.
